Facebook May Be Using A Kinder, Gentler Approach to Spammers

Today I was bored and decided to send some random friend requests in Facebook like I do every few days.  I went to the “Computer” group page and clicked on a few names.  I have done this numerous times before and normally send off 10-20 requests.  This time after approx. 5 requests a message box popped up stating that Facebook felt that I was violating one of their fair use policies and that if I did not stop my account would be suspended.

Although I was surprised to see this it does seem to show that Facebook is taking a more proactive stance on combating spammers.  I have seen numerous complaints in the past that people had their accounts suspended with absolutely no notice as to why it was happening.  This type of warning message is a great way to alert users as to potential violations before they cross the line.

Change Your IP Every Second!!!

We aren’t asking, and you aren’t saying.  For whatever reason you may need to change your IP at the same speed you breath IP Rental may be your solution.

I found these guys when they contacted me about hosting one of their DSL modems.  Their whole business is simply allowing paying members to use the DSL routers spread around the country as proxies.

Since this is a service you pay for, and because I found out about them because they wanted to drop one of their setups in my shop I feel these guys are probably far more legit then most of the proxy services out there.  They also have an impressive write-up about how there service works that makes it seem superior to the other proxy services I have run across.

The service costs up to $100 a month.  If you think this is a lot then you don’t really need the service.  For people who make money bending the rules on the Internet this is definitely something to check out.

Craigslist, Twitter, Facebook and all of the good sites that try to prevent spamming rely on geo location and IP addresses to block “over use” by visitors.  This should neatly circumvent their security filters.

Creating Autoblogs to Advertise Your Own Web Properties

As anyone knows who’s followed my blog, or spoken with, I don’t think much of Affiliate or Pay per Click marketing.   There are ways to make it profitable, but the numbers involved are a bit ridiculous.  This has led me to try to create a pay for membership site in hopes of becoming profitable through subscriptions.

I have been debating ways to do marketing for the past couple of months and think I have hit up-on an intriguing idea.  Numerous “autoblogs” have popped up lately.  These blogs use a script to automatically gather posts from other blogs and publish them.  They do this to try to gather Google traffic.  They post as many banner and Adwords ads as possible in the hope that they will earn a decent amount of money through ad revenue.  I find this to be boring, tedious and of doubtful profitability, BUT… I was thinking…

What if I created numerous autoblog sites, but the ads on the sites ONLY pointed back to my membership site? It would end up costing around a dollar per site to setup, and probably take about an hour to do the setup and configurations for each site.  For very little money and time I could then create a number of legitimate back links which would help out in Page Rank, and bring in traffic to the main membership site.

If you then played around with redirecting 404 errors, or just plain redirecting traffic you might get some decent results. (This may be in within the darker shade of grey hat, but I would argue against it being black)

Mailinator.com Review: Use a Temporary Email Address to Avoid Spam

Do you hate giving out your email address when you have to register for random services on the Internet? Do you hate all the spam you get sent just because a website that you don’t care about asked for your email once?  Well Mailinator may be the tool for you.

Mailinator.com gives you an easy to use, disposable email address that requires no registration.  You just go to the site, make up an email address and away you go.

The service is very easy to use, and the mail server is very fast.  I sent a test email to myself and received it in a second or so.

This is a great tool that I would suggest everyone thinks about using before they give their primary email address to a strange website.  Just remember there’s no security on the temporary email account so don’t use this for any site that may send you important information.

Find Your Lost Wireless Network Key

It’s amazing how many passwords and keys people create and then promptly forget about.  One of the really annoying passwords people forget about are their wireless access keys.  (This is the code you put into your computer when you connect to a wireless network for the first time.)

There’s a handy little tool from NirSoft that allows you to recover the wireless access keys that you have entered into your system.  You just download the software, double click the executable file, and your access keys are given to you.

Please note this is not a hacking tool that allows you to break into encrypted wireless networks.  This tool only works if you have connected to the network before.
