Monetizing Your Web Site or Blog: Commission Junction is a Good Choice

There are a number of options to choose from when you decide to put banner ads on your web site or blog.  Having researched a number of them I would suggest most web site owners take a look at Commission Junction (www.CommisionJunction.com ).

Commission Junction acts as a broker for companies that want their banner ads displayed on web sites.  Once you create an account with them you will be able to browse their list of advertisers and the banner ads that the advertisers provide.

Every advertiser has it’s own payment and application process.  Some advertisers just require that you click an "I Accept" button for their legal agreement, others require an actual approval process.  As far as payments go you have to see what the individual advertiser is offering.  Commission Junction only provides the framework to bring publishers and advertisers together, they do not control the business between them.

The two main reasons I like Commission junction are; One, they have real Brand name advertisers.  You’re not stuck dealing with no name companies that you would be embarrassed displaying on your site.  And second, they have a full gallery of banner ads to choose from.  Many of the advertisers will have 100 or more different banner ads to choose from in all shapes and sizes.  It’s nice to be able to find an ad that fits the space you have, and not have to try to create a space to fit the ad.

If you’re new to having banner ads on your site I would recommend you try out Commission Junction first.  It’s a first rate company with high quality offerings that require very little out of you to get up and running.

Monetizing Your Website or Blog: Google’s Adsense Didn’t Impress Me

I know everything Google does is supposed to be golden, but I was less then impressed with my experience with Google Adsense.  Don’t get me wrong the setup process is pretty easy and configuring my site to show ads took no time at all, but the ads that were shown were down right embarrassing.

The ads shown made me concerned for the reputation of my site.    I had the ads up for about 2 weeks and never in that time did I see any ads for companies that I would be happy to support.  They were all no name companies selling inferior products.

Apparently if you want to spend the time administering your Adsense setup you can block certain ads from showing up.  My web guy runs a site with Adsense and he has a list of well over 200 ads that he blocks in Adsense.  Although this works it seems like too much trouble for what it’s worth.

I would advise that you take a look at Commission Junction (www.CommissionJunction.com ), or Linkshare (www.LinkShare.com) instead of Adsense.  The setup process is just about as easy as Adsense, but you get to pick which advertisers you will show and even the exact banner ads that will be displayed.
