The Simple Way to Use Social Media to Get More Traffic to Your Website…

Sadly Social Media Marketing is now being sold the same way SEO has been for the past few years.  Greasy people who can’t do a lick of real tech work try to sell naïve business owners on the idea of “complicated” Social Marketing Campaigns.  But just like SEO, Social Media Marketing is not a complicated concept, nor is it hard for an average web publisher to deploy.

The first thing you need to do is create Social Media Accounts for your brand. This means create:

  1. Facebook Brand Page
  2. Google+ Brand Page
  3. Twitter Page
  4. LinkedIn Account

These accounts need to be named with your Brand name, or the closest thing you can get (i.e. My twitter handle is elicomputerguy because eliTHEcomputerguy was too long a name)

You then need to create accounts where you can share your content.  There are many services that allow you to share content but I prefer:

  1. StumbleUpon
  2. Reddit

You then should create accounts on other Online Communities where people may have an interest in what you’re saying such as http://www.ETCGCommunity.com .

Past this you should embed the code for “Badges” for your Facebook Brand page and any other brand pages you have created.  This will show your visitors how many “fans” you have and they can then easily follow you on Facebook or such.

Finally you need to embed the code for Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Reddit, and StumbleUpon “Buttons” on your site.  This will allow people to easily share your content to one of these social networking sites by just clicking the button.

Once you have all of these accounts you just publish your content and then “bang all the buttons”.  Many people are shy about sharing their own content, but you have to be the one to try to get it out there.  Whenever I create a new blog post or video I immediately share the link on my personal Facebook, EverymanIT Facebook, Eli the Computer Guy Facebook, Google+ personal, Google+ Eli the Computer Guy, ETCGCommunity.com, LinkedIn and Twitter.  I then also submit the content to both Reddit and Stumbleupon.

By doing this I know that a majority of my fans will see that I have published new content, and that many of them will go take a look.  This dramatically boosts the views each posts recieves, and makes my fans happier because they see the new content I have put out.

Remember that your fans WANT to hear what you have to say.  If you’re shy about self promotion even your fans won’t know what you are creating and they won’t be able to tell their friends how cool you are.
