Results of the “Low Orbit Ion Canon of Love” Test…

So last week I ran another test of the “Low Orbit Ion Canon of Love”.  The basic concept is that I ask all of my fans, across all of my social media, to both “Like” a Facebook Page and Say that “Eli the Computer Guy thinks _____ is the coolest” on the page.

Last time I tried this it was for a company called OnSIP.com and I got 38 comments left on their page back in July. This time I targeted Fortify VC, a Washington DC based Venture capital firm that is holding an event called Distilled Intelligence 2.0 in October.  Overall the results were very nice.

We got 42 Comments left on their Facebook page, and in the 4 days I was tracking the page they went from 788 “Likes” to 840.  So we’re looking at between 42-52 new Likes that they received because of the “Canon”.

At this point I think the numbers show that this is a useful tool for promoting companies or start ups that I already support, but is below the threshold of what would be needed to try to find paying sponsors.  My gut instinct would be that 250-500 new “likes” would be required for a paying sponsorship.  But so far it’s fun to see the results, and I am now looking for a new target.  I think targeting one company/ start up a week will be accepted by the community and useful to the targets…
