Eli the Computer Guy presents this informational video from the Best Buy in Owings Mills MD, and explains the basic concepts people should understand if they are going to buy a tablet computer.
Class Notes
Go to a store to buy a Tablet Computer. They are all different sizes and act differently. You want to play with a Tablet before you buy it.
All iPads are basically the same. (Of the same generation)
All Android Tablets are different.
Brand New Android Tablets may have OLD versions of Android installed. You may not be able to upgrade the OS on your Android Tablet.
ONLY buy an iPad or Android Tablet! Don;t buy a RIM, or Palm Tablet
The more you spend on a Tablet the better it will work. The $500 ASUS Transformer is MUCH better then the $200 Amazon Kindle Fire
Some Android Tabets can only access App Stores from their manufacturers

Good morning, I have downloaded quite a number of your videos. They are great and informative. I use IcyVideo with VLC player. I have noticed that with many of them the last 5 minutes are lost. It is more than likely that it can be my signal from Internet provider that is lost. is there a save guard against loosing nearly the whole Download every time I loose the signal, which is dicey at best of times. Can you recomend a video on this topic?
Thanx
Tom

Hi. Do you personally think there is a future in Business for Support of Tablet machines ?
Eli the Computer Guy
Yes… if your helping create solution’s or support organizations with 100+ tablets… just fixing a tablet here and there wont be any money though…

For those who are interested the Asus slate is very nice for those looking to use it more as a computer as it has a Windows 7 premium operating system. It is relatively lightweight and small for its power and if you get the Microsoft Signature one it starts up amazingly fast unless it has updates of course. It works well on a flat surface as the vents are on the sides. It has issues starting in 80 degree weather or higher if its hot as its so jammed packed with power in such a small space, but other then that it works great so long as you make sure its cool. Its cooling capacity is sufficient for regular use in regular weather. I’m kind’ve hard on mine as I have had it on all day a lot of times without any extra cooling to help it. Been meaning to get a cooling pad though. The other issue I have is with the keyboard that comes with it as it fails to turn on or something if I haven’t typed in awhile. I’d highly recommend getting a small wireless Logitech keyboard to avoid that issue. The only thing in my mind that would make this more perfect would be if you were able to connect it with a keyboard to turn it into a laptop and the keyboard had extra battery power to extend its battery life and balance it out so it doesn’t flip over like what they offer for some of the tablets. I have no problem having several programs running at the same time including Visual studio and playing YouTube video’s, browsing the web with multiple tabs open and more. The screen is sufficient for doing those task, but definitely a little bigger than the IPad and thicker so don’t let it fall on your nose as that will hurt. I wouldn’t want it any smaller though when it comes to screen size. The resolution is nice too. It is a little heavy to hold in your hand for extended periods so if that is something you plan on doing regularly this may not be for you. I’m guessing it weighs about 3 times heavier than an IPad without the leather protector. Oh an some sort of digital ink technology would be enough to make me go gaga over it, but unfortunately the technology I was looking into is still in its development stages so we all have to wait. Not sure though if that technology will work with the touch screen capabilities it currently has. I believe the battery life is about an hour or so. I just keep mine plugged in though mostly except for the more brief tasks when traveling. When I bought it it was the best I could find for what I wanted. Hopefully this helps you in your search a little more to finding what will work for you best.

Excellent review – I will send the link to this to all my friends who pepper me with questions about tablets. And I agree about going to the store to get these – nothing replaces having one in your hands to get the heft, look, and feel of a shiny toy.
