Purpose of Class

This class teaches students how to install a Windows Operating System.  Although we demonstrate installing Windows Vista the same steps can be used for all Windows Operating Systems.

Class Notes

1. Introduction
   1. Installing an Operating System is very easy to do
2. Warning
   1. All data on the computer will deleted during the operating system installation!
   2. Make sure you have the right Operating System disk
3. BIOS
   1. Verify that both the optical and hard drives are detected.
   2. Change the Boot Order so that the computer boots from the optical drive first
4. Install OS
   1. Make sure to press a key to start the process during bootup
   2. Follow prompts
5. Install Drivers
   1. Device Manager controls device drivers on Windows Operating Systems
   2. To get to Device Manager – Start Button -> Right Click “Computer” or “My Computer” -> Select “Manage” -> Select “Device Manager”
6. Installing Updates
   1. Upgrade to Microsoft Update
   2. NEVER download driver updates!!!
7. Final Thoughts…
   1. Installing Linux is very similar to installing Windows
